I came across this touching letter from Annamary Kobusinge of Fort Portal, Uganda and wanted to share it with you. She was 10 years old when she wrote this in 2009. Annamary is now 14 years old and receives school fees from her sponsor for a year now. Read how much faith and hope this little girl possesses. Of course, I have left the letter in her words so you can capture the full essence of her passion for an education.

My Name is Kobusinge Annamary. I stay in Kyogya. I am an orphan aged 10 years. All my parents died when I was still young. I live with my grandmother. My grandmother was not having money to pay for me school fees when my parents died and I stop studying. Today I am not studying because of school fees.

I stayed home digging with my grandmother. After that I suffered a disease which I was not knowing. My grandmother tried to give me local medicine but she failed. I pray and God heard my prayers. The disease went away from me but my studies failed. I pray to God to have mercy on me to fight all dangers against me. I have knowledge but the problem is school fees.

I am praying hard that God doesn’t leave his people alone because we are living in a small house. I also want us to stay in a big house but through praying to God that one day we will stay in a big house and I will go back to school because I want to study. When God have mercy on me and I go back to school I will put in more effort work hand in hand. I will also pray God because the Lord says that whoever asks will be given. There I trust in God who help all orphans to have mercy on me that I will get the way to study. When God helps me and I study I will be wise.

When I have finished my studies, I will help other orphans through treating them. I will also pay school fees for some orphans in my church because I know the suffering of orphans and help old people who can’t help themselves. All these I can pass through them by praying and fasting.

God bless you as you read through my story. Amen

As a sponsor you do more than send funds to support orphans’ education. You open the doors of opportunity for them–Doors Beyond Their Imagination! Visit our web site at www.hhcharities.org and make a commitment to send an orphan to school this year. Next term starts in mid-May so there is still time to make an impact in an orphan’s life.

Thank you for responding to our request to sponsor the orphans of Uganda. Robinah Kenema was blessed to have a sponsor that paid for her entire year of education. Our request is that we find ten (10) more sponsors. Only you can help us reach our goal for this year! All of the children deserve to attend school so we have to start somewhere. It is not too late to make a commitment to educate a Ugandan orphan.

We know you want to help so the children are listed below. Open your heart and educate an orphan.

Garrett Kahunde, boy, age 11

Lillian Kajumba, girl, age 12

Shallon Katusabe, girl, age 10

Bridget Katusiime, girl, age 11

Frank Kirungi, boy, age 14

Margaret Kirungi, girl age 18

Maliseli Kyeyune, boy, age 11

Kenneth Musana, boy, age 9

Prize Nimusima, girl, age 10

Jovin Tumusime, boy, age 8

REMINDER: The annual tuition cost is only $325; per term (3) is $110; per month is $28 (can be set up for automatic payments). Tuition cost also includes a uniform, shoes, supplies, and a daily meal. You will receive a photo of your child. Visit our web site and commit to at least one child’s education.

I often wonder why refugees seek to alter their familiar world with one that is so unfamiliar and daunting. Yet, I admire the tenacity they have to seek a more promising future for themselves and their families. The refugees have sought to flee areas in this world that are so overwhelmingly detrimental to family lives and security. They risk leaving their loved ones and come to America where everything is strange, and most, not welcoming their arrival.

HHCharities remains excited and awaits the day when our Refugee Assistance Center will be completely furnished and ready to invite the Refugees into our new office. They will receive instructions in English as a Second Language, American Sign Language, and Nutritional and Financial Literacy. Hopefully, our Cultural Mentorship Program, led by Laurent Okuma of ASIS, will adapt them to our American behaviors, opening the door to a world that will gradually become their world.

The Refugees live in our communities, down the street from you or even next door. It is our opportunity to embrace them and assist them as they daily grow in knowledge and characteristics of our culture; in turn, as we learn theirs. Mary Pipher states, in her book, The Middle of Everywhere” regarding the youth, “…these kids had simple needs as well as complicated ones…Even small acts of kindness made a difference.” Just think—how would you want to be treated if you had to live in an extremely foreign land among totally different people who live by unfamiliar rules? I wonder!!!

HHCharities invites you to partner with us as we roll up our sleeves to engage the refugee families; helping them to walk down the American path and, at the same time, not encouraging them to discard their own cultural backgrounds.

Visit our web site at www.hhcharities.org. Don’t forget to “Like” and “Share” us on Facebook and LinkedIn. Volunteers are more than welcome to help us make an impact in the Refugee community of Dallas, Texas.

“I am always available for HHCharities.” This is a quote from one of our dedicated volunteers who makes sure that our Social Media is presented to the public weekly. Thank you, Maulin, for being steadfast in your role as a volunteer with us. You have made a definite impact in our branding strategies; for the people of Africa and the refugees in our community.

Volunteers’ responsibilities can range from answering the phones to making sure we have cleaned up after an event. They are sometimes taken for granted and get a lot dumped on them. For example, Maulin has taken on the responsibility of cleaning up our Salesforce data, which was a formidable mountain to climb because he knew nothing about this data system. He accepted the challenge and won the victory! All nonprofits need volunteers they can count on—no matter what.

Take time out this week to be grateful for the work your volunteers perform, week after week. Say, “Thank you. I appreciate your time and efforts.”

HHCharities invites you to join us as we say “Thank You,” to all volunteers in the nonprofit arena. Visit our web site at www.hhcharities.org. “Like” and “Share” as you encounter our FaceBook and LinkedIn postings. Become a part of helping to make an impact in the community where you live.

Throughout our travels to Africa there is one thing that remains constant—the desire of the women to earn a living for their families. We come in contact with so many that simply want assistance with funds to start businesses so families can survive continuously. These women don’t want just a hand out. They want someone to help them with hands that will lift them out of poverty and bring hope to their families; strengthening a community.

Another wonderful act we witnessed through the women is their ability to care for orphans that are not part of their immediate family. Several women take care of another child, or children, when they can barely feed their own. These women show love to destitute orphans and that love is imitated by the children to others.

There is a world that women create just by showing love and strength to those around them. Women can change the world!

HHCharities invites you to join us as we create a “world of hope” for those in Africa. Visit our web site at www.hhcharities.org. “Like” and “Share” our plea to support efforts in Africa with your Facebook friends.
Listen to how Theopista “Topi” Kemigisa expresses her gratitude to Mary C. for sponsoring her education.

“Thank you, mummy, for love and grace you have done to me when you choose me to be your daughter. When you choose me I was very happy and I was about to cry. This year I am going back to school to study to gain a senior 5 level and to achieve my goals or to reach my destiny. But mummy, in my future I would to become a lawyer and to know the Bible. In my life I am not suffering from any disease and I am very okay. Bye, bye, mummy.”

Topi is only one out of 2500+ orphans in the Fort Portal, Uganda community so you see that the task is great and the children are so very thankful. Your giving allows them to dream and have hope.

Allow me to share some excerpts from another letter sent by one of our Ugandan orphans, Fred Alvin Kirungi–written according to his knowledge. Listen to his desire to learn, his confidence in himself, and his ability to dream big.

Dear Daddy Henry,

It is a pleasure to hear that you are going to support me in my studies in order to be well in the future. Thank you very much. In my academics I am performing well in sciences then art and I am sure I shall maintain it. In the future I would like to be a pharmacologist with a lot a strength of doing sciences more than the arts. Sciences like biology, chemistry, physics and maths, my favorite subjects… With a great happiness in my heart, God abound all his blessings to you and your family….All from your loving son, Kirungi Fred Alvin.

What gratitude! Fred Alvin has not lost hope for his future in Uganda.

HHCharities received approximately 100 letters in February from our sponsored orphans. These letters warmed the hearts of 59 of our sponsors. It makes a difference to the survival of these children because they realize that their sponsor wants to change lives in Africa. A quotation from one of the orphans sums up like this, “I used to watch my friends as they walked to school and prayed that someone would help me go to school one day. Now I am walking with my friends and one day I hope to be a doctor. Thank you mummy for loving me.” Now that touches and pulls on the heart strings of any warm-blooded person!
